When I was little, my Mom and Dad had something called a microchip put in the scruff of my neck. They did it because the pound people said that if I got lost, I’d have this little ID code that would help my parents find me faster. But just this week, my Mom heard the news about how these chips are being linked to cancers in lab rats and dogs!

Wow! Our Golden Retriever had a microchip implanted as a puppy and just died of osteosarcoma… As far as we know, he didn’t have cancer in his neck or shoulder, however- it seems to have begun in his rear leg, which was amputated in 2006.
I certainly hope they do more research on this- I don’t think we’ll have our next puppy microchipped!
Well you’ve gotta wonder, Susan. The tumor I had started out in the same general area as where my microchip was. Shoot, now I don’t even know if I still have a microchip in me, because they took out my entire scapula. Well, not like I need one anyways, I’m such a good dawg, I’d never go anywhere too far from my family!
I’m sorry about your Goldie. That makes me sad.
